Part Seven Caution To The Wind
Today is going to be a very busy one for me Two space ships to get fired into the humid air I'm not comfortable with doing this in such a hurry 74 people to be launched and handled with care
We are out of time to make decisions so cautiously The water keeps getting higher and higher But throwing caution to the wind is acting dangerously I have no choice now as the situation is dire
We built another Launch pad to set up the last craft We wouldn't have enough people left to set up the final takeoff We still wont have enough room for every last man But we'll do the best that we possibly can
Russell and Mandy will pilot the next spaceship Then Simon and Tonya will fly later tonight Tomorrow the last vessel will make it's final trip And we will tell the Earth goodbye
Bethany and I decided to spend a few minutes together Before the chaotic day gets started I love this woman and want to be with her longer than forever Remembering all the storms that we have weathered
It's funny to think that through everything that's happened With the last few years living here on this mountain Our love has been more than I could've ever imagined I still find it a bit strange that she still calls me Captain
"I love you, Beth. I always have and always will" "I love you too, honey. For all eternity" "I hope all your dreams have been fulfilled" "Captain, it's been perfect. Let's fire some rockets and have some thrills"
When Bethany and I arrived at the launch pad Simon greeted us, "Can't start the party without you" "Both ships fueled and ready to go?" "Yeah Cap, Mandy and Russell are ready too"
"Well then, let's get this show on the road" I said "Communications are up, countdown initiated" Simon spoke "Mandy, are you astronauts ready" "Roger, Captain. We're ready to smoke"
"Copy, on my mark....5.....4.....3.....2....1" IGNITION LIFTOFF
"It's a beautiful ride Captain. 37 souls heading to our new home" "Copy that, Mandy, good luck" I spoke into the radio We watched as the lifeboat was expertly flown We stared in silence as it disappeared into the ozone
I was the first one who spoke, "Simon, ready for your trip?" " Hell yeah, Going to chill first with my old lady a bit " "Okay, we'll get that pad cleaned up and ready the last ship" "That's cool, Cap. Will nine O'clock do it?"
"Nine's good. You see that rocket right there, Simon?" "Yeah, Cap. She's the most beautiful thing I've ever seen" "If you put one scratch on her, I'll kick your ass" Simon laughed, "in your dreams," "See you at 9" I laughed
