I don't understand. I really don't. The voices are loud, my ears hurt. The lights too bright. I can't handle this, I'm used to darkness. Used to silence. Only my own thoughts to torment me.
They tell me I'm safe. That you will never hurt me again. That you'll pay for what you've done to me. That's something that confuses me. What have you done to me? You haven't hurt me. I'm sure.
'I love him.' I tell the blonde officer. She smiles sadly. 'Darling, I know you had a very rough time in that basement.' She says in a voice, made to demean me. 'But that's over now.'
Only now I realize what she is trying to say. She thinks I'm your prisoner, your plaything. She's stupid, off course. 'You are so lovely.' I can hear your voice as clear as hers. 'I love you.'
My mum's here. She cries, hugging me. I stiffly hug her back. Her tears make no sense to me. Shouldn't she be happy for me, that I've found a man that loves me? That I'm somebody's wife?
My eyes close. The darkness is soothing. 'I'll get you.' You whisper to me. 'I'll get you out of there.' 'I know.' I say back. 'I never doubted.' 'I love you, you know that, right?"
'Can you please open your eyes, miss.' The blonde lady is back again. I open them. 'What do you want?' 'They want you to tell them about him.' Mom explains gently. I frown.
'Because you were kidnapped years ago, love.' Mum says. 'He took you. He took you from our home, when you were asleep. And I know it's confusing, but you can't trust him. He doesn't love you.'
But suddenly I'm not so sure.
