I close my eyes and the air grows still except for the soft breeze that gently dances on my warm skin.
My shallow breaths start to slow down into lulling waves.
Then I hear a ringing in my ear that quickly turns into a whisper. It bounces around my mind, restless and fully awake.
"You shouldn't have said that..."
And I am crushed by a stampede of this evening's sharp-edged conversation.
"What you did was just so stupid..."
And vultures preying on my weakening will attack me with their savage claws.
I am left torn and broken on the ground, mere scraps of what I had been before while the whispers echo all over this cavernous mind of mine.
"Why are you always wrong?" "Why?" "Why?" "Why?" The echoes keep asking me.
"Don't worry." I answered,
pulling myself together.
"I won't make the same mistake tomorrow."
