"I...I'm sorry to hear that," Artemis said gently, sitting down besides her. "Do you want to head back to the castle? I don't think this fountain is helping either of us."
"my parents are dead." Kelsey repeated. She looked at Artemis and back to the water where she saw the reflection again, this time tears of rage filled her eyes as she thought of her mother. "no" she said standing up , spitting in the fountain and walking away, into the darkness and further into the woods.
Orion and Artemis shared a look of great confusion. 'The female species is complex. I don't think even the greatest of wizards can understand them,' Orion said, making Artemis sigh but nod in agreement. He jogged after Kelsey. "We need to get back to the castle," Artemis said. "It's dangerous here for just the two of us," he said, trying to persuade his friend from going deeper into the forest
"you dont have to protect me, I can go on alone." Kelsey spat, her eyes widened "oh.. sorry yeah we should probably go"
'She's feisty and moody,' Orion said. "Orion, if you don't shut up I'll bind your mouth shut," Artemis murmured to Orion in English. He took out his wand again and muttered, "Lumos." The light glowed on his wand and he took Kelsey's hand, leading her back in the direction of the castle.
Kelsey sighed, she felt exhausted "I didn't mean to yell at you, but I haven't seen my parents since they died" she said "it was just a weird experience" she said gripping Artemis's hand tight, she yawned
"It's fine," Artemis said. "I miss my parents too." Even though his father wasn't dead, ever since Artemis was 7 years old, then his dad grew more distant until it felt like he wasn't there at all. Artemis knew he should be grateful to have one parent still alive, but he's always felt like he was an orphan. "And yeah, that was a weird experience," he said quietly as the castle came into view
Kelsey started seeing spots "thanks for joining me." she said yawning "i'm gonna go to bed, maybe we can meet up in the morning since its a saturday and there's no classes." she suggested
"Sounds like a plan," Artemis smiled softly. "Do you need help getting back to your House" he asked, noticing how tired she was
"no no no" Kelsey said shaking her head and letting go of his hand "I can do it myself" she said walking forward and stumbling "actually yeah I need help." she said blushing and looking at her feet in embarrassment
Artemis nodded and helped to support her. He carefully guided her down to where the Hufflepuff House was. "I think this is where I leave you," Artemis said. "But I'll see you tomorrow, right?" he asked, hopefulness creeping into his voice
"definitely" she said smiling, giving him finger guns and opening the portrait into her dormitory and waving him goodbye as it closed, she went upstairs to her room, and changed, she fell asleep as soon as her head hit her pillow.
Artemis chuckled and headed to the Slytherin dormitory. He changed quietly, but instead of going to sleep, he looked through the window and up at the stars. His thoughts played back to what he saw at the fountain, and he frowned in confusion. Who was the silhouette? And why did he feel a sharp pang of longing everytime he remembered holding hands with it?
