Hair Care Tips for Balayage and Ombre Styles

Balayage Manchester and Ombre styles are all the rage. Colouring hair is as popular as perms were in the 80s, and just as damaging if not done by a talented colourist!

If you want your hair coloured in the Balayage or Ombre style, we can help, but after treatment, hair care is extremely important.

Of course, it is only natural that you want luscious, shiny hair.

Unfortunately, people who opt for Balayage or Ombre sometimes end up with damaged, brittle and tangled hair that no amount of deep conditioning treatments will fix.

If you are considering a Balayage or Ombre treatment, read on for some hair care tips.

Take Care of Your Hair Prior to Balayage and Ombre

Hair needs to be 100% healthy before you apply colour. Dry damaged hair will only get worse when chemical dyes are applied.

Give the colour a miss if your hair is already showing signs of poor health. Treat it with nourishing hair masks and deep conditioning protein treatments to restore its gloss and shine.

Once your hair is back to good health, then you are ready to book a session with our experienced colourists.

Be Gentle

Be gentle with your hair. Invest in a natural bristle brush – they are kinder to hair.

Use smooth, gentle strokes to tease out tangles and be very careful when brushing wet hair, as this is when most breakage occurs.

Don’t Wash Your Hair Too Often

Shampoo strips natural moisture from hair, which we then try to replace with conditioners. It isn’t necessary – or healthy – to wash hair every day.

Try to leave your hair for a few days between washes. If it gets greasy at the roots, use a natural bristle brush to gently redistribute the oil down the hair.

You can use dry shampoo as a quick fix option, but do this sparingly.

Always use products designed for coloured and treated hair. Avoid products that contain sulphates and silicon.

Use Deep Conditioning Treatments

Don’t skip the deep conditioning treatments once your hair has been coloured. Look for products that contain protein.

It’s okay to use store cupboard basics such as olive oil and coconut oil to condition your hair from time to time, but it’s best to stick with professional hair care products in the long-term.
