Twitter To Introduce Algorithmic Timeline.

Sources at Twitter tell me algorithms are strictly opt in.

Twitter's timeline will soon show tweets out of order.

Twitter may launch its new Facebook-like timeline next week.

'FB-style' algorithm will be awesome for baby announcements.

Let's see if the rumor even turns out to be true.

You won't believe what happens next.

Twitter could make huge $$$ by allowing sponsored curation

of the algorithm in favor of one political party or another. https://twitter.com/ProfJeffJarvis/status/695795435731087360

You'll love it.

@jackson I definitely agree with that assessment. I think a tab would indeed be a good idea. I think Moments was almost similar to that concept. Did you guys see the MAU numbers for Twitter released today......hopefully this feed will help solve some of those problems

@sydney I'm actually generally optimistic. I love the "while you were away" and just can't keep up with twitter these days (or when I do, I'm not productive in anything else). The only think I'm worried about is that the distinction between algorithmic and timeline will be too vague. I'd honestly prefer a sixth tab or something like that, rather than the default to algorithmic and then pull to refresh to return to normal (so far I've heard) but am hopeful / think it'll be a way better experience for new users

Former Twitter employee Paul Rosania makes a strong argument for non-chronologically sorted tweets here: https://twitter.com/ptr/s... TLDR: your timeline is already sorted. If the sort order is changed, it'll be to improve the experience.

So.....they're copying Facebook......

I think Twitter will be great because of it actually. I bet they'll allow for hashtag search and the ability to have real time too. It's just really hard to appeal to the masses without some sort of curation.

I just figured out why Jack from Twitter want to make tweets 10k char.. It's because they're losing views/users to exterior platforms every time someone reads an article from a tweet on a different website. :chart_with_downwards_trend:

At first glance, it seems like an absolutely terrible idea. I feel like it will destroy the ability to follow breaking news stories. The spontaneity of Twitter makes it a different beast from Facebook. That being said, I'd like to play around with it before making a snap judgment. It seems like an awful idea but until I see it in practice, I can't really say one way or another.

Wow......Yeah I saw this.......I LOVE twitter. I really do hope it doesn't hurt the experience....What's your opinion on this? I know you guys are huge twitter users too. Any thoughts on this? @lelper @slisam @andrew @geeky_yang @interncass @jaswinderbrar @sarharibhakti @timosolo @sanemavcil @sara @dakota @kina @varadhjain @jc @dlee @tomaxwell @rometty_ @johnconklegmailcom @lipmanb @jackson Personally....I think it will hurt certain things like the spontaneity of finding a random person that I really love from a retweet or just because I was on the at the right time. But I think overall, the curation will help make it so that twitter isn't so reliant on just who you follow. Which was 100% what users saw before (making experiences across the board so different)
