I jolted awake.
Grayson was alive. He was right next to me, looking concerned.
"Are the nightmares back again?" he asked, putting his hand on mine.
I couldn't speak, so I gave a weak nod in response.
Grayson gave a sigh and stood up from his position on the floor.
Moonlight streamed through the windows, leaving little light spots all over the chair I fell asleep in. Grayson moved to close the blinds.
"You need to talk to someone about this," Grayson said, shaking his head. "I know I can't do much because I still supposedly belong to the other side of the war, but-"
I cut him off. "We are not telling Nazil. I still- I'm not over- "
He nodded. "I know. But.... It may be a good idea, Ari. We- we could end it. We could end the war."
I sighed. "I'll think about it... but for now it's safer if we don't tell anyone. You could just end up getting punished."
I got up out of the chair and went to the balcony on the other side of the room.
"You should probably get back anyway," I said, performing the hand motions to remove the shield covering the balcony. "People will start to notice you're gone."
Grayson walked over and gave me a hug.
"I love you, okay?"
I sighed. "I love you too. Be safe."
Grayson walked out and jumped off the balcony. I watched him float to the ground and run towards the black palace in the distance.
I replaced the shield and got into bed.
Maybe the nightmares won't come back. I thought. Maybe it'll just be a dreamless sleep.
