Summer of '17

During the days of summer swelter

Surrounded by a meadowed haze

I felt her

She’s by my side

And as we lay

She can’t decide

On what to do with her life

Asking who are you?

And who am I?

And in the future

Will I be your wife?

With pictures of our kids flying kites

At a park and at an age

Where they don’t ask why

The darkness has to fade

The beauty of the sky?

I turn and stare into her diamond like eyes

They’re burning scared with fear

No disguise

I say any moment worrying about tomorrow

Turns to memories

Wasted with the regret and the sorrow

But any effort trying to fix the past

Is a path to a broken soul

Wrapped in a cast
