New year, new start, new me? Not really.

Resolutions

The clock tolls, It’s a new day, A new month, a new year; A new start, and even so, I can’t help but look back. And look back with regret.

How many promises are made with each chime? And how many of those are kept?

What shall I swear to do this year? How to reorder myself? How to be better, how to be perfect, How can I be enough?

How many promises are made with each chime? And how many of those are kept?

I vowed to be thinner, more active and kinder. I vowed to stop needing, entreating and taking. I swore to be happy and grateful; not wanting. And not one of those bore fruit.

How many promises are made with each chime? And how many of those are kept?

I see it around me, when everyone strives, To be more than they are at this point. I see people fall, and give up and crumble. I see us. We don’t think we’re enough.

How many promises are made with each chime? And how many of those are kept?

So this year, a promise will not leave my lips, I won’t set myself up to fall. This year I’ll vow, not a thing, not one word, This year, I’ll just be myself.

So many promises are made with each chime. And not many of those are kept.
