The plank began to splinter and crack and I knew what I had to do. Holding the love of my life tightly in my arms, she gasped and I whispered that it would be ok.
My shirt grew wet from her tears, and she squeezed me harder. "Don't do it, " She said. I smiled, she knew me too well. "You can't, I need you here. Don't leave me."
I began to stroke her beautiful, long sun kissed hair. "It can't hold both of us, silly, " Her sobs grew louder. "NO! DON'T DO IT! YOU CAN'T! " I began to untangle myself from her grip.
I have lived long enough, I thought to myself. My life was worth nothing, until she found me. My beautiful angel, she saved me. Now it was my turn.
She looked up at me for the last time with her big golden eyes as I said "live for me."
Pushing her back to safety I turned and just before I jumped off the side of the cliff, I told her I loved her for the first time.
All I could hear, on the way down was her shouting my name from above, and the words "I love you too!" Good, I thought. She didn't jump with me.
She will be safe, she will make it, I know she will. I smiled for the last time, I almost managed to trick myself into thinking I was flying.
