Innocent I was Knowing nothing

Innocent

Innocent I was

Knowing nothing

Only what

I was supposed to know

Laughing screams

Not of fear

But of emptyful joy

Empty, because what was I happy about?

Full, because I felt blissfully alive

Running

Jumping

Pumping

Swirling

Twirling

A ballerina in a male-driven world

I embraced it

This difference.

The grass waved hello

The trees smiled in amusement

The clouds shivered and gossiped about my actions

But I didn't care.

I had to get away

Away from the shouts

That Mommy and Daddy make

When the phone rings at 12

I had to run faster

Talk louder

To shake my joy back into my body

Catching

Grasping

Gasping

As I saw a cat in a tree

I pumped my legs faster,

Eyes straight on the ball of fluff

Looking nowhere else

Focused.

But.

Then.

Something.

Hit.

My

Ankle

And I was flying.

My mouth was open, wider than

It could ever be when the dentist said

"Open up!"

or when the doctor said,

"Say Ahhhh."

"Ahhhhhhh!" I

Screamed.

Pain fireworked through me

Darkness and light

Scared me

That's all I could see

Light and darkness.

All I could hear

Were my screams that did not sound like my own

I was alone.

Alone in a meadow

Blanketed in soft sun

With no one to hear me

For a very long time.
