you were supposed to love me.

selfish mothers

by Elliott

while you say

that your life is changing for the better,

mine is taking a turn for the worse.

while you worry about your own well being,

mine crashes down.

and still, I continue to be blamed for your mistakes,

as you rise yourself up to the top,

I can see your face

as I fall to the bottom.

but yes, it is all my fault,

for I am the reason your love for me has run out,

though I am expected to keep mine flowing.

so this is where I stand,

where you've left me to rot,

all by myself,

do you love me?

I guess not.

That is an especially sad tale for me to read. You captured just what happens between a narcissistic mother and their offspring. I though you chose your words with care to portray this story that is so oft repeated. The rest of the relatives blame the child too. You may have to emotionally break away. Do not belierve this woman. GHreat poem!!!!
