the last poem I spend my time writing about this.

Divorce

by elliott

I remember hearing you fight in the car

and I remember it being the first time I saw you cry.

and I remember seeing it many times after that

and I remember hearing it every night.

I never once thought you two would separate

the thought had never crossed my mind.

I had thought once was enough;

couldn't it not happen a second time?

I soon learned that was a lie,

but then you changed your mind.

I never thought you would seperate,

I always thought I'd wake up

in the broad daylight

to the sound of two voices

instead of one

in your room

next to mine.

This was beautifully written and touching. The toll taken on the children of a divorce is incalculable. Great job!!!!
