When anxiety strikes...

The Pond

The sun shines, reflecting off my surface.

Frogs croak

birds chirp

flowers bloom

around my banks.

All is well.

Clouds gather,

hide the sun.

Wind brushes across my waters

- gusty -

wavelets hit the banks,

soak the flowers.

Plop!

The drops start

become steady

- dashing -

disturbing the gale's ripples.

I am churned.

Lightning strikes

- crack -

electricity reaches through me

Waves begin to crash

- angry undulations -

I splash

and swell,

- overwhelmed -

overtaken.

I have lost control

of my very self.

Then

a dove dips,

feathers dust my face

wings rustle

- whisper -

"Peace"

above the roar of the tempest.

The wind stops.

Drops cease.

I breathe in:

waves ebb,

stillness comes.

My waters rest

- smooth as crystal -

dazzling as they reflect the sun emerging from fleeing clouds.

A mirror for the solitary bird

- dancing -

rejoicing in my restoration.

A furious squall came up, and the waves broke over the boat, so that it was nearly swamped.

Jesus got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Quiet! Be still!” Then the wind died down and it was completely calm. Mark 4:37, 39

Be still, and know that I am God... Psalm 46:10
