Kind of a sad surprise

Surprise

Her breath releases in slow rhythmic pulses.

It's the only thing she can focus on without blacking out entirely.

But slowly.

As she grips the news. As she understands those words.

As the creeping necrotic cloud courses in with those puzzling breaths.

They turn choppy and fresh. Pouring in with salt from her tears. Raining in.

Dappling her shocked and shaken expression with glistening streams of fluid.

Dappling her shocked and shaken expression with glistening streams of fluid. She's crying.

Dappling her shocked and shaken expression with glistening streams of fluid. She's crying. She can't breathe.

Dappling her shocked and shaken expression with glistening streams of fluid. She's crying. She can't breathe. He's dead.

Dappling her shocked and shaken expression with glistening streams of fluid. She's crying. She can't breathe. He's dead. He's dead and gone.

He won't come home.

He won't be the father he always wanted to be.

Against her own will a joking whine barks in her head

"and I just bought him milk too!"

And it sickens her.

The phone loosens from her grasp.

The phone he convinced her to buy.

And it chunks against the floor clunkily.

And it chunks against the floor clunkily. She slams down next to it.

And it chunks against the floor clunkily. She slams down next to it. Her head almost touching her knees.

The hair she grew out for him

The hair she grew out for him whisping,

The hair she grew out for him whisping, caressing

The hair she grew out for him whisping, caressing her arms in tickling tendrils.

Her stomache turns and she belches.

Her stomache turns and she belches. A sick

Her stomache turns and she belches. A sick wet sound

Her stomache turns and she belches. A sick wet sound interrupting her soft whine.

When it does she widens her mouth and empties.

Empties a loud and pained cry into the darkness underneath her stomache between her head and her knees. She hiccups and then screams again.

Her face hurting.

Her cheeks burning,

Her cheeks burning, both from being upside down

Her cheeks burning, both from being upside down and from the jarring

Her cheeks burning, both from being upside down and from the jarring disfigured gnashing of her maw.

Why? She called out.

Like a baby at a supermarket denied candy.

She cried like an infant who just met a strange man.

She cried like an infant who just met a strange man. She wailed like a toddler whose diaper needed changing and whose mother wouldnt come.

Why?

She was going to tell him.

She promised.

She promised.

She was just waiting for it to be a month.

tomorrow.

She was waiting for tomorrow.

She's pregnant.
