Comforting Affliction

my eyes are heavy,

my eyes are heavy, drooping from melancholy

my eyes are heavy, drooping from melancholy and dripping with misery.

my hand rests heavily,

my hand rests heavily, lifeless against the bed sheet,

my hand rests heavily, lifeless against the bed sheet, wondering if he's experiencing

my hand rests heavily, lifeless against the bed sheet, wondering if he's experiencing the same gut-wrenching

my hand rests heavily, lifeless against the bed sheet, wondering if he's experiencing the same gut-wrenching grief.

my mind races endlessly,

my mind races endlessly, cataloging and remembering,

my mind races endlessly, cataloging and remembering, desperately hanging on to

my mind races endlessly, cataloging and remembering, desperately hanging on to everything and anything.

my heart slowing,

my heart slowing, ears buzzing,

my heart slowing, ears buzzing, lungs painfully constricting.

my eyes are closed,

my eyes are closed, stitched shut with woe

my eyes are closed, stitched shut with woe and tiredly throbbed trauma.
