My Korean friend from the cafe had sad news for me today. As he was pouring my iced coffee he said something about 'Korea' and 'Saturday'. I walked over and asked him what he'd said.
He repeated himself by saying that we was going to South Korea this Saturday to see a doctor.
"Oh!" I said. "That sounds like a long flight!"
"Yes, it really is. I'm going to be gone until October."
"Wow! Do you have any family there?"
"Well that should be nice."
He handed me a fresh iced coffee. It looked delicious. I put in some cream and sugar and applied a lid.
"What day are you leaving?"
"Oh, ok. Will the cafe still be open while you're away?"
"Well that's good." I walked over to the door and waved goodbye. "Well have a great time in Korea!"
"Bye! BE SAFE!!" He shouted after me.
I walked back down the street sipping my iced coffee wondering why he had raised his voice so loud when he had said 'be safe'.
I started to wonder if perhaps he had a crush on me and would miss seeing me every morning. I knew that I would miss him.
