Why are We Addicted to Struggle?

by johnchang

Is It That We Like to Suffer?

Unless you're a masochist, of course not!

Then, is it because we feel that we deserve it?

Maybe - guilt is sometimes taught and carried with us

But, no one DESERVES a life less lived..

Life is short enough!

"Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.."

As Marianne Williamson says, "Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure!"

@johnchang it's not avoidance i believe, it's just understanding suffering and conquering it :)

@venice - avoidance of suffering can even cause more suffering. In fact, that's what addiction is - avoidance of facing the real need for connection. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

@pluto - thanks for your thoughts! Just checking out Commaful on a friend's recommendation. So far, I like the thoughtfulness and sharing here! A bit more than typical cat video & selfie sites!

Point well taken - but when is "enough" ever enough, unless we choose to say so. The problem is that often we give away our power. We wait for approval.. We seek validation.. We desperately just want to gain acceptance and love. Yet, it was never there for someone to grant it - any more than us really needing it.

This is well written. I don't think I can support your premise. You supported it very well, however. Struggle, conflict, and tension are part of the physical universe. You have written a beautiful piece.
