Does Life Happen to You?

by johnchang

A young woman complained how hard life was..

Tired of struggling, she admitted she was ready to give up

Her mother boiled three pots of water..

Placing a carrot in one..

..an egg in another..

and finally coffee beans in the last.

"What do you see?" she asked.

"Carrots, eggs, and coffee," replied the daughter.

"All three things went through the boiling water,"

her mother pointed out.

"But look how each reacted -

The carrot seemed strong and hard but went soft..

The egg's fragile shell and soft center became hardened..

But the coffee changed the water itself..

releasing its true nature.

If we don't choose how we change..

Others will choose for us.

@tabnash24 - I've experienced this in my own life. Sometimes we never know what shape a teacher may take. In fact, it's often easy to miss out, when they come in the form of a nagging or annoying presence!

Tbh, this reminds me of all the time I spent with my grandpa after being bullied for so many years. He was that mother in my life and those nightmares were the boiling water. Thank you so much for this post, it really touched my core. Thank you!

You just keep these coming, buddy. I love these little treats. The morals to the stories are so pithy and incisive. I need you to assemble these in a book I can buy four of them for my grandchildren. What you do with these old fables is fantastic.
