There are too many distractions in this world. Focus on the important things.

Stop paying attention to the noise

There are so many things vying for our attention every day

Could be our kids, our work, our friends, and even a funny cat gif.

5 hours later.....

Work isn't done. Get home later. Less time with your family. It's a bad spiral to be in.

I find that this is usually because there is too much

Too much on my to-do list. It becomes daunting. I get distracted easier with there are too many things on my plate.

I've found there are usually 3 things that matter.

Three things that actually matter for work every day. If I do those 3 things, I'm in a good position. The rest can wait or aren't that important. It's just noise.

Do an exceedingly good job at those 3 things

and the rest falls into place. I find I actually have more time on my hands.

My boss is happier.

And I am too.

Give it a try! Find the 3 things you need to do every day.

And do it!

@sydney LOL I'm flattered but I think it's funny that you keep thinking I'm great at being focused and productive. In reality, I try a lot of different things like pomodoro which I mentioned before but I do get caught up a lot in social media. This is true especially when I'm stuck on a task or I'm working on something I don't care for. One thing that I experimented with recently was Chris Sacca's headphones on approach (think I heard him say something about that in the podcast). Even if I'm not listening to music, putting some headphones on kind of gets me in the mood to work and tune out other things. Also, if I'm listening to music, I find I can get distracted if I'm shuffling through a playlist and I'm not in the mood for a certain song. So lately, I tried just listening to one song on repeat that can set the tempo for my work and I can kind of drown out. It's been working so far!

@sydney I am constantly purging things in my life. Friends, people, email subscriptions, people I follow on social media, long-term goals, hobbies, apps, social activities, meet ups, expenses, projects, things I want to build, news sites I follow, and more. With that being said, I stay open to new experiences, quite the balance. :)

-Morning routine to get in flow state -Manage tasks effectively, focus on most important first -Cut out inputs (no news, deleted facebook from my phone, block any sites that are distracting)
