Jump

by jenny liu

It’s as if the wind pushes you closer and closer

to the edge of the cliff.

Some days you’re able to push against it and step back,

but other times the wind overpowers you

and your mentality is

ever so weak.

See, you aren’t afraid to die,

you just choose to accept the inevitable,

however, you do not wish to envision the bottom,

the midnight blue of the sea,

and to know that it’s all over.

It’s that journey from the cliff, the short lapse of free falling that you want to experience, the thrill.

For so many thoughts, emotions and memories rush through your mind encompassing your body.

The fall pulls you closer,

but the landing prevents you from jumping.

This was beautifully written. Your verses were compelling me to the edge. But I am acrophobic. I even felt my heartbeat quickening. Great poem!!!!
