How my heart has hardened.

Induratise

by jakerockett

I feel my ribs crack like petrified wood

They strain under the weight of the stone that sits in my chest

Breath comes gravelly and ragged from my throat

I have surmised that you are all gorgons

I try to catch your eye but every gaze is jagged

I quake at the thought of you but my skull resounds with moments that have been, and those that I wish would

I constantly lie at fault, but something is shifting

I feel leaden with all of these god forsaken feelings

Is it worth it to carry this chain and drag this weight

When moving forward simply accrues a longer sentence

I understand the statues

They couldn't bear it either
