Heather sat in her room. She watched out the window as the flashing lights and the glittering gowns crowded the dance hall.
She looked down at herself; her soiled grey dress, belted at the waist, was a far cry from the expensive tastes and lavish jewels of the party below.
She wiped a covering of dust from the shelf and looked around–
–this was not where she wanted to be for the rest of her life.
