I am going to see Pride & Prejudice (2005) at a movie party on Sunday so I thought I would post a few quotes from Ms. Austen's works (one of them using today's prompt: Possession) with a little bit of my own commentary!
"It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune, must be in want of a wife" It's an ironic setting for the entire book! Actually making fun of Regency England and marriage. Or rather, a girl of marriageable age's thought that this must be the case for all single men of fortune.
“Vanity and pride are different things, though the words are often used synonymously. A person may be proud without being vain. Pride relates more to our opinion of ourselves, vanity to what we would have others think of us.” I just love this quote!
“There is a stubbornness about me that never can bear to be frightened at the will of others. My courage always rises at every attempt to intimidate me.” Strong willed women...men fear them, society bashes them...I adore them!
“I have not the pleasure of understanding you.” I forget the context of this one but I love it because I read it as almost a diss. Something like: I don't understand you & that is a pleasure for me.
"My good opinion once lost, is lost forever.” I think this is very true for a lot of people, including myself. Which can be hard when people genuinely change from the person they used to be.
"Obstinate, headstrong girl!" This quote is also a favorite of mine. You just want to look at Lady Catherine and say WHY THANK YOU!
“You must allow me to tell you how ardently I admire and love you." Talk Darcy to me! This line makes me melt!
I hope you enjoyed these quotes!
