What if you were a figment Jane Austen's imagination, and she cast you, not as Elizabeth Bennet, but as Charlotte Lucas in "Pride and Prejudice".

Today's microtale is about a book very close to my heart. Ever wondered, while reading a book, why we mostly imagine ourselves in the shoes of our beloved character (the protagonist or love interest of the protagonist)? ©i.chaki

But what if, in the fictional world of our favourite book, the author (our beloved Austen, in this case) decided to push us aside? After all, the book only has placemat for a single hero and heroine. But there are multitudes of forgettable or unforgettable characters making appearances. ©i.chaki

And statistically, most of us would fail the audition to bag the role of Bennet or Darcy in Austen's imagination. ©i.chaki

What if, most of us never had a Darcy to begin with and was always destined to be with Collins? Would you still want the story to end as it did? ©i.chaki

I always identified with Elizabeth Bennet and yearned to meet my Darcy one day. ©i.chaki

Then real world happened and my story ended like Charlotte Lucas. ©i.chaki

Yet the yearning did not stop. ©i.chaki

Now I carry the heavy heart of Lizzy in the prison of Charlotte's logic. ©i.chaki

Collins is my truth and Darcy...still a fantasy. ©i.chaki
