Prose about a wanderer

Wanderer

As I wander

I think.

Will I ever touch a life?

Or a heart?

Or a mind?

My fingertips

Sway on the canvas

Feeling paint lasting for years

My feet tap

Softly

So different from the

Expensive shoes

And cars

And bikes

And planes

It’s so quiet I can hear

My own heartbeat

Pounding in my ears

Who am I?

My once-alive pencil traces graphite onto once-alive paper

Their imaginary leaves

Rustle in my head

Music to me

I can feel cold wood under my toes

My mind strays back to

The questions that keep

Me up at night

Who am I?
