Mystery/thriller Collab! Part 3 in "Collab Time"

Track of Prints

The prompt: You find a track of footprints that lead off the hiking trail and decide to follow it The entries -->

My feet hit the trails route Crunch, crunch, crunch Ground is left with a footprint of a boot I follow it on a hunch

As I follow through the woods There's nothing but trees that stood The day broke to a nightly whisper I finally reach with millions of blisters

Suddenly a man was found on the ground He didn't break into a sound His heart didn't have a beat He was left dead on my feet @iamafollower

I follow the footprints through the sand, Weaving around the beach grass, Listening to the waves calmly roll by, The whispering winds

In a clearing, she stood, A young woman, singing, Singing songs of ages past, Her sweet double edged notes.

There are no footprints, Only the siren and her lullaby. Her lulling voice, encapsulating, I will soon be gone as well. @mcghosty

I trail behind the footprints The path at my feet fades as it leads To the darkness of the woods A chill ran down my spine

A figure at the other end of the path. A flame of anger ignited within him I could see his disturbing sinister smile And haunting sunken eyes

Suddenly, the creature let out A piercing screech and charged-towards me with ape-like fury I froze, my feet glued to the ground @rosieblares

The breath of nature tinges the air The animals chittering, unaware The dirt crunches beneath my feet The plant life bathes in the summer heat

An unknown path of footprints abound Littering the wild untamed ground My curious side begins to prevail And I step and follow the untold trail

A wondrous landscape spans before my eyes A shimmering sun begins to arise No longer contained by tainted walls For out there, adventure calls @orcastogether

Deep the footprints sink into the floor My hands are scathed and yet I still search for more So I stroll behind and I wait aghast Wondering what on earth my future held... if it was worse than my past

The man's eyes were wide with rage Pulsing and thriving like the blood that ran cold in his veins His black orbs met mine and the breath left my being I was held captive with fear, learning the mistakes that come from living

He stumbles out of the trees, his face all bloody My eyes grow wide at the sight and I freeze as he starts to laugh like something was funny "RUN!!!" He screams, stumbling out and reaching out But it was too late as my eyes latched onto the thing behind him and I let out a terrified shout

It was 11:42 pm Darkness engulfed the earth I was headed down a hiking trail Confusion overtook me

I didn't remember how I got there I had no idea why I was there I glanced at the ground beneath my feet There were enormous footprints

I was pumped full of panic "What creature could have left such bizarre prints?" I wondered I raised my head and gazed at the sky It was a full moon @faked

The deeper I go, the darker it gets The prints were human, looked grotesque Exhaled, not quite daring to say "Well, I guess I lost my way"

Can't see now, darkness, swallows whole I can't see trees that come and go No sound, deep here in the frozen night Where there's not even faint starlight

My breath comes sharp, I don't know why Just filled with fear for fight or flight As though it heard my thoughts of death The forest was loud with hushed breaths @themiddlechild

I wish to escape this eerie night The wind howling, the clouds clashing Suddenly, appears a shadow ahead I ponder further and further, through this lost tragedy @poeticworld

I consistently look over my shoulder with wide eyes With my sight behind me I trip over a root on the path Tumbling over plant life, down the hill, stopping at the tracks Mysteriously appearing before my eyes, one after the other

Frantically I push myself to my knees, and watch in wonder As the footprints start wandering around me I gulp audibly and get to my feet, looking for the culprit But nothing but air meets my eyes, ideas popping up, but none fitting quite right

My face drains of color as I come to a conclusion What if this person is invisible, or maybe I'm just delusional As the prints stop I look up in fright To see a girl no more than five, standing with a knife @hayha

Hope you enjoyed! Thank you to all the participants: @iamafollower @mcghosty @rosieblares @orcastogether @sstar2000 @faked @themiddlechild @poeticworld
