The girl wthin the thicket

Joshua Laurence". Joshua replied hesitantly. The small child looked too innocent to be a kidnapper so he calmly asked her how he ended up in the trees.

The kid looked up In thought as she said; "Well I heard my trap and found you all knocked out and bloody so I fixed you"! She looked so proud of the job that he didn't want to spoil it.

He HAD remembered something about running away from something or other and hitting his head so he felt he could trust this child. He ought to ask her name and about that voice he silently noted.

"So kid what can I call you?" Looking at the child in front of him he saw a small look of fury as she hissed at him; "For your information OLD MAN I am twelve... but you can call me Ann.

" Joshua was startled that this child err kid was so feral. She vaguely reminded him of a fox. Even her uneven chopped up hair looked like two ears.

Noticing his stare Ann said, "long hair gets caught up in everything out here".

To get back at Ann he said " Okay little fox can you tell me who you were talking to earlier?" Ann was getting increasingly annoyed by this "Joshua".

"That was Chief, he is the head of the fire brigade and he's coming to get you out of my tree fort. And you WILL call me Ann or I WILL make you climb that rope on your own when he gets here.

" Stopping for a moment as if Ann had heard something she said " now if you want to eat tonight I need you to get your butt off my exit.

" Earlier she had noticed his fear of heights when she had dragged him up the hidden pulley system that would stay hidden.

Once again Joshua was stunned by the little fox's ferocity and wondered what could make her so wild and why she was out here without anybody.

But the man hastily moved his behind as requested for fear of her threat not being empty. Leaving Joshua behind Ann went to check her trap hopefully a buck would be in there.

She could use the horn tips as both arrow and spearheads. The last one had already shed its horns.
