My heart is like a bird,
Locked up in a cage.
I just can't seem to find any happy words,
Because all of my happiness feels staged.
Whatever I touch,
Turns into ice.
It hurts so much,
When you feel like you're trapped in someone else's mind, pretending to be them in disguise.
My fingers and toes,
Shrivel up into prunes.
Leaving me feeling numb and exposed,
Against the wind of the world, and the rage of the sand dunes.
I feel so empty,
There is nothing left of me to steal.
Like someone came up, and took what’s left of me,
Leaving me breathless, and too numb to feel.
