Previously on I Will Be There: She looked at his hand and smiles, putting her hand in his and shaking it once, then letting it go. "Kelsey, Kelsey Ginter. Nice to meet you," she said happily.
Chapter 1 (Part 2) ~ Hogwarts Express
Kelsey made a clicking sound with her tongue and a small, teacup barn owl flew to her arm and perched himself there.
"And this is Barnaby," she said motioning to the small, golden-eyed owl.
"It's nice to meet you too Kelsey," Artemis said. "And hello, Barnaby," he grinned to the owl.
A fully grown ball python slithered out from an opening in Artemis' suitcase and curled up comfortably around his shoulders as if hugging him.
"This is Orion, my snake," Artemis said, fondly petting his pet. "He's harmless, I promise. He wouldn't hurt a fly."
Artemis didn't know if this would be a good time to mention he was parselmouth, so he kept silent.
"You don't have a problem with snakes, do you?" he asked. "I could put Orion back in his cage if he's bothering you."
Kelsey waved her hand in a calm flick of her wrist and shook her head. "Oh no, I actually quite enjoy the company of snakes," Kelsey said looking at the python happily.
"My mom used to have a snake, she used to tell me when I was little that she could speak to her," Kelsey continued, smiling.
"So- I take it you're a Slytherin?" Kelsey asked, still smiling.
Artemis nodded. "Yeah, I'm a Slytherin.
Artemis nodded. "Yeah, I'm a Slytherin. Although when the Sorting Hat was choosing, he was about to put me in Ravenclaw before he changed his mind at the last second. I never really found out why though."
He paused before asking, "Was your mother a parselmouth too? It sounds like she is if she can speak to snakes."
"I don't really know, she never told me directly, and she uh left- before I got old enough to ask, but yeah I think so," Kelsey said glancing out the window as the scenery passed by.
"Yeah... I think she was" Kelsey said quietly.
Artemis got quiet. "Oh...I'm sorry for your loss," he said gently and awkwardly.
His own mother had passed away too, but she died a few days after he was born, so Artemis never really knew her.
Orion slithered off of Artemis and went over to Kelsey, nudging her hand gently in an attempt to comfort her.
Kelsey looked at the snake and smiled, using her index finger to rub the top of Orion's head.
Kelsey looked at Artemis "Thanks, but she's not dead. She quite literally left me." Kelsey said sadly.
"But I don't really wanna talk about that if that's okay," Kelsey said, smiling sadly.
Barnaby flew towards Orion, hooting softly.
Artemis nodded, not knowing how to comfort her. Orion gave Barnaby a bored stare, and then looked at Artemis.
'It's sad that I'm better at emotional support than you are,' the snake said in parseltongue to him.
Artemis glared at his snake and rolled his eyes slightly.
He hated how Orion acted all cute and innocent to other people, but whenever the snake said anything, then he turned into the very definition of sarcasm and sass.
"Say, are you a snake speaker too?" Kelsey asked quietly looking between Orion and Artemis.
Kelsey looked out the window again, "Y'know it's a bold thing to assume, but I think your the only nice Slytherin I've ever met." she said softly looking out the window and into the distance.
"Yeah, I'm a parselmouth," Artemis admitted. "And thanks," he said, touched by the compliment.
"I-if you don't mind me asking," he said. "How come you're sitting with me instead of your friends? You seem like you'd have tons of them."
Kelsey blushed and looked down at her bright red converse.
She rubbed the back of her neck with her hand "I uh- actually don't have any..." she said with a mix of hurt and embarrassment.
Artemis stared at her in shock. "People are idiots if don't want to be friends with you," he said bluntly. "You're amazing! And if you're ok with it, I could be your friend," he said with a smile.
Kelsey blushed a pale scarlet, the tips of her ears turning red "Well okay." Kelsey said "I'd love to be friends with you." she said happily.
Orion nodded his approval. 'Finally, you'll be hanging out with an actual human being instead of stalking Malfoy all the time,' he muttered, making Artemis blush as well.
'Shut up,' he muttered back to his snake in parseltongue.
Orion gave him a smug look, but Artemis ignored him and turned back to Kesley.
"Awesome!" he said, his smile growing wider.
