WARNING: The following story (maybe not this chapter, but you'll never know) contains major cliffhangers. This novel is also written by a sleep-deprived teen who doesn't know if their words make sense or not, so if you experience some cringe or confusion, then there's an excuse for it. But besides that, enjoy the story!
Chop woke up with a pounding headache as she tried to open her eyes. The redheaded teen flinched as a blinding light pierced her eyes so she had to wait a few minutes before she could actually see.
"What is this place?" Chop muttered as she looked around. There was nothing to see except a vast land of desert, which is a pretty disappointing place to appear after being sucked into a magical circle of...well, magic.
"It was a sphere, not a circle," Elliott corrected Chop, making the redheaded girl jump in the air. "Holy shiznak, you scared me!" Chop exclaimed. Elliott grimaced at the word 'shiznak', but the gold haired teen didn't get to respond before Chop asked, "And how did you know what I was thinking?"
Elliott shrugged. "It might be the magic of the Gátt," she suggested. "Or it's probably just my super awesome psychic powers working again." Chop rolled her eyes but a grin twitched at the corner of her mouth anyway.
"WHY IS THERE SAND IN MY HAIR?!?!" Shifa screeched a few feet away from Elliott and Chop. "Because we're in a desert...?" Anna said from right next to her, yawning a bit. "Thanks, Captain Obvious," Shifa sighed miserably, desperately attempting to get the grainy substance out of her hair.
"We're gonna get a sunburn if we stay in this heat for too long," Andy commented, and everyone nodded in agreement. Almost as if some all-knowing powerful entity (*cough* the author *cough*) heard them, and Shifa was the first to spot the traveler wagon that was moving towards them.
As soon as the wagon got closer, Chop saw that the traveler had some pretty cool olive green hair and intelligent eyes that were the same shade of green. The guy was wearing some tan robes, and Chop wondered how in Hades a thick piece of cloth could protect him from the heat. The traveler frowned as he stared at the 5 teens. "Why're you dressed like that?" he asked.
Andy, who took their clothing seriously, looked very offended. "What's wrong with my clothes?" they demanded. The traveler gave Andy a strange look. "Are y'all not from around here?" He looked at the group again and answered for them. "No, of course, you're not. Anyone from around here should know that such thin layers will make a person die from heatstroke."
'Thin layers?' Chop thought in confusion. She was wearing jeans, a t-shirt, and a jacket. Those weren't really considered to be very thin layers. The traveler sighed. "Climb into the back of the wagon. There are some clothes in there that''ll keep you safe, and I can take you guys to the nearest village."
"Why is he reminding me of a guy in a white van offering free Wi-Fi or something like that?" Shifa muttered to Chop, making the redhead chuckle. "Tell us who you are first," Anna said, refusing to move towards the wagon. "The name's Kiyino," he said. "The nearby town, Lyvanore, is only a few minutes away, I promise."
"I think we should go with him," Elliott said. "He has no intentions of harming us. Although...he is thinking about spying on someone-" "How do you know that?!" Kiyino asked, his eyes widening in surprise. "Are you a sorceress?" "I don't think so," Elliott replied. "But I've been told by many people that I'm a psychic."
Kiyino nodded, although he looked slightly disappointed that the gold haired teen wasn't a sorceress. "If Elliott says it's safe then it's safe," Chop declared, jumping into the back of the wagon. "That's not a good reason, but ok," Anna sighed, climbing into the back as well. "Glad to know you have faith in me, Anna," Elliott chuckled.
Shifa and Andy glanced at each other, shrugged, and followed the other 3. Chop sighed in relief once she settled into the shade of the wagon. Andy looked at the clothes that were scattered on the floor of the wagon and admired some of the outfits.
"Sooo where are we going again?" Chop asked. "I think he said Lyvanore," Anna responded. "Oh ok," Chop said, laying her head down on a bundle of clothes and closed her eyes.
As the 5 teens plus Kiyino headed towards Lyvanore, they were all oblivious of the tiny midnight black raven that was watching the wagon roll away. Once the wagon was out of sight, something unusual happened. Unlike a normal raven, it grinned. 'The Master will be pleased with what I've found out,' it thought as it flew away towards the mountains that could be seen just beyond the desert.
Great changes were coming to the land of Zariya. And little did those 5 teenagers know that they would be the main ones to make sure those changes didn't involve the entire universe collapsing at a moment's notice. No pressure on them at all.
I'm sorry that this wasn't the best chapter, but I promise Chapter 3 will be better! The next part will also have a LOT more characters being introduced, so stay tuned for that! Until next time! ~ Artemis
