The story of a gardener and his life beyond his work.

The gardener

by glennhenley

In the gloom lies a man With a ratty old coat and a watering can

He's the gardener of a rich old house Where he is treated like an unwanted louse

He is paid just enough for him to eat But as for shelter, he sleeps out in the street

Watchful of unfriendly faces Wary of unfamiliar places

He drags himself to work every day To earn a little more as pay

He tends carefully to the beautiful flowers Watching them grow, spending hours

Cultivating the brand new blooms In the greenhouse's myriad rooms

But soon he must leave it all behind And return to the streets and their kind

Maybe there'll come a time, one day When in this world he finds his way

It's lovely to read, and neither black or white. Love how he seems content with his work, yet at the same time wishes he could be rid of it.
