A poem about leaving home.

Leaving home

by glennhenley

The musty smell of old books Of rain and sun and the way grass looks Is engraved upon my mind

Lasting shadows paint themselves upon my heart As from my lovely home I must depart I leave so much behind

Home is where my days were spent Home is where I am meant To be

And when I leave I am torn up inside There's no where to hide For me

When I go from the familiar to the strange When I start my future, turn a new page I wonder what role I play on this world's stage

Hits it right where it's supposed to. Might be short, but damn is it effective in conveying what it does.

I'm college bound this August and this poem really got to me. So beautiful and I'm glad that you wrote this so I had the opportunity to read this. I can't wait to leave, but I'll miss the familiar❤
