"the water had never looked so lonely"

l o t u s e s

with an outstretched hand,

with an outstretched hand, and a broken mind,

with an outstretched hand, and a broken mind, she marveled at the ocean that surrounded her.

though unable to move her heavy head,

though unable to move her heavy head, stuck staring at the back of her eyelids,

though unable to move her heavy head, stuck staring at the back of her eyelids, her heart started to drown along with the rest of her.

as she could not longer see the moon she so desperately loved.

yet even all her desperation,

yet even all her desperation, could not wake her from the bed she had so willingly fallen into.

yet the moon, pitying the exhausted girl...

yet the moon, pitying the exhausted girl... shone brighter than before.

in the hopes that it might wake her, so her eyes might stay open,

to watch the water surrounding her play with its light,

to watch the water surrounding her play with its light, to watch lotuses grow between her fingers...

towards a surface she would never reach

so that her outstretched hand might finally...

so that her outstretched hand might finally... touch the sky.
