Ellie found herself at the stereotypical crossroads of the single late twenties’ female.

Ellie found herself at the stereotypical crossroads of the single late twenties’ female. She always considered herself somewhat a rebel.

With an air of disdain always aimed at the budding families her age popping up around her,

With an air of disdain always aimed at the budding families her age popping up around her, she began feeling something she never thought she would feel.

FOMO - The fear of missing out.

FOMO - The fear of missing out. Something every nonconformist must never feel, only suppress.

In the past, Ellie tried online dating but only came up with playboys

In the past, Ellie tried online dating but only came up with playboys, playboys

In the past, Ellie tried online dating but only came up with playboys, playboys, and more playboys acting out as if they wanted something serious but would only end up cheating on her.

Basically, she met clowns.

Basically, she met clowns. All of them.

Basically, she met clowns. All of them. Just clowns.

She could only think of her best friends’ voice in her head saying,

She could only think of her best friends’ voice in her head saying, “Do you really want to end up like an eccentric old cat lady with, like, twenty cats or some shit?"

Ellies retort always suggesting a snarky tone,

Ellies retort always suggesting a snarky tone, “No I want to be the entertainingly eccentric elder woman with a modest three French Bulldogs, actually."

Her friends only reply would always be one of those deep eye rolls where her eye could probably see the brain or get stuck back there.

Her friends only reply would always be one of those deep eye rolls where her eye could probably see the brain or get stuck back there. Something like that.

Against her better judgement she went ahead and made a new account on a dating site she never used before, hoping that this would change the outcome.

If it didn’t work out,

If it didn’t work out, she had already decided it would be her friends fault

If it didn’t work out, she had already decided it would be her friends fault seeing as it’s way easier to blame someone else than admit maybe you have a woebegone-type attitude that prevents you from succeeding in love and life.

Ellie didn’t care though.

Ellie didn’t care though. It’s still her friends’ fault if all goes to shit.

After a few weeks using this new dating service, she realized she had become completely enamored by a man she had been speaking with.

They never met in person nor did they video chat so she was bewildered by this sudden change of heart.

They never met in person nor did they video chat so she was bewildered by this sudden change of heart. His name was Emmett.

They never met in person nor did they video chat so she was bewildered by this sudden change of heart. His name was Emmett. Ellie and Emmett.

That sounds cute together, she thought, obviously getting way ahead of herself.

This was common for her and most likely another underlying issue she needed to fix instead of blaming others for everything wrong in her life.

Following a few short phone calls, Ellie and Emmett finally decided to get together at a local library.

Following a few short phone calls, Ellie and Emmett finally decided to get together at a local library. They both shared a love of books and reading.

She tells him to meet her in the lilac reading room by the large bay windows at the back of the library.

She arrives early to pick out a few of her favorite books to prepare for some conversation starters.

She arrives early to pick out a few of her favorite books to prepare for some conversation starters. You never know when an awkward lull will jump out at you.

While she is settling into her spot, ‘Gulliver’s Travels’ in hand, she gets a heavy tap on her shoulder.

While she is settling into her spot, ‘Gulliver’s Travels’ in hand, she gets a heavy tap on her shoulder. Turning around, Ellie is revolted to find her boss waving at her uncomfortably.

Her 60-year-old boss was Emmett.

Her 60-year-old boss was Emmett. He had been cat-fishing her this entire time.

Her 60-year-old boss was Emmett. He had been cat-fishing her this entire time. He thought this would be a more appropriate way to confess his love to her but he was gravely mistaken.

Now she was both out of a job and officially traumatized on ever dating online again.

All Ellie could think of now is how much she wished she didn’t listen to her best friend.

All Ellie could think of now is how much she wished she didn’t listen to her best friend. This was all her fault, after all.
