A dream adaptation I had the other night (my mom actually did buy this statue...and this odd dream followed). Hope you enjoy my poem for the 2018 dream contest :) zzzzz

The Pumpkin Mans' Woes

My mom found an eldritch looking statue at the consignment store

My mom found an eldritch looking statue at the consignment store I guess you could consider this an item of décor

My mom found an eldritch looking statue at the consignment store I guess you could consider this an item of décor I called him the pumpkin man but I couldn’t quite adore

With the face of a pumpkin and the body of a jest

With the face of a pumpkin and the body of a jest The bewildering combination left me with the feeling of unrest

He had a toothy painted smile with a slight air of annoyance

He had a toothy painted smile with a slight air of annoyance And a gaudy, ruffled gorget that seemed a bit of a hindrance

He had a toothy painted smile with a slight air of annoyance And a gaudy, ruffled gorget that seemed a bit of a hindrance He seemed quite unhappy with his life maybe because he was always on clearance

We stowed him away in the guest room since it was not yet the season

We stowed him away in the guest room since it was not yet the season I wish she never bought him at all because, to me, he seemed possessed by a demon

Later that night whilst laying comfily tucked in my bed

Later that night whilst laying comfily tucked in my bed I noticed a shadowed figure scurry away from a pool of bloodshed

Uneasily I get up to check out what the deal was

Uneasily I get up to check out what the deal was I come to find the pumpkin mans’ bleeding limb to be the cause

In that moment I realize his woeful mistake

In that moment I realize his woeful mistake For he had done this to himself in a moment of mental ache

I felt so guilty for having assumed he was evil

I felt so guilty for having assumed he was evil All he needed was a loyal friend who wouldn’t commit another betrayal

No more would the pumpkin man find himself given up for another decoration

No more would the pumpkin man find himself given up for another decoration His woes cease to exist and his new life just begun

No more would the pumpkin man find himself given up for another decoration His woes cease to exist and his new life just begun For he sits on my mantle now to join in the family fun

No more would the pumpkin man find himself given up for another decoration His woes cease to exist and his new life just begun For he sits on my mantle now to join in the family fun And don’t worry, we stitched him up real nice...just like mint condition
