Inspired by the lights going out in my neighborhood

When the TV Turns Off

Suddenly the power went out in our neighborhood

Across the street I saw my neighbor emerge out of his house.

Out of hibernation...

Out of his cocoon...

He cautiously walked out his front door

He looked left and then he looked right,

disoriented as if he was barely coming into consciousness

for the first time.

After pacing back and forth for a few moments the confusion turned into intrigue

as he examined his neighborhood with new eyes.

He began to notice things he knew were always there but never took the time to appreciate

as if he'd never seen the tree in his front yard

he began noticing all it's grooves and cervices

Birds singing caught him off guard as if it were a foreign noise his ears had not known.

Looking towards the sky, his eyesight followed the sounds to the top of the tree

where a baby bird lay in it's nest with it's mother.

Fascination lies in being present

This was tender and very sweet without being cloying. Your descriptive words brought your theme into vivid focus. Great job!!!!!
