I love it when I can use poetry to spin a story. This felt beautiful to write, and I chose meadows as my background for it always stood for endless beauty to me.

A story to tell

Two little children, two little boys,

Two little children, two little boys, Smeared in mud and leaves,

Two little children, two little boys, Smeared in mud and leaves, That they fling at each other,

Two little children, two little boys, Smeared in mud and leaves, That they fling at each other, Giggles bubbling with every throw.

Laughter echoes through the fields,

Laughter echoes through the fields, As the little children chase each other,

Laughter echoes through the fields, As the little children chase each other, Through the yellow meadows.

Laughter echoes through the fields, As the little children chase each other, Through the yellow meadows. Sweet innocence chasing them.

Gasping and panting they stop,

Gasping and panting they stop, The giggles never stopping,

Gasping and panting they stop, The giggles never stopping, Best friends forever,

Gasping and panting they stop, The giggles never stopping, Best friends forever, They promised that day.

The blush painting their cheeks,

The blush painting their cheeks, They both tried to hide,

The blush painting their cheeks, They both tried to hide, Then blamed the wicked sun,

The blush painting their cheeks, They both tried to hide, Then blamed the wicked sun, As they suddenly look away, a strange feeling.

Time escaped in a blink,

Time escaped in a blink, Two little boys, not so little anymore,

Time escaped in a blink, Two little boys, not so little anymore, Their friendship grew with time,

Time escaped in a blink, Two little boys, not so little anymore, Their friendship grew with time, So did a strange denial.

Perhaps the fear in losing something,

Perhaps the fear in losing something, Perhaps the anxiety in gaining something,

Perhaps the fear in losing something, Perhaps the anxiety in gaining something, Something stopped them,

Perhaps the fear in losing something, Perhaps the anxiety in gaining something, Something stopped them, An existence unaccepted.

Arms flung around each other’s shoulder,

Arms flung around each other’s shoulder, Casual to the stranger’s eyes,

Arms flung around each other’s shoulder, Casual to the stranger’s eyes, Yet filled with a million emotions,

Arms flung around each other’s shoulder, Casual to the stranger’s eyes, Yet filled with a million emotions, Were those careless touches.

Playful shoves, hilarious banters,

Playful shoves, hilarious banters, All masked the unspeakable,

Playful shoves, hilarious banters, All masked the unspeakable, For it was easier to deny the presence,

Playful shoves, hilarious banters, All masked the unspeakable, For it was easier to deny the presence, Of something greater than them both.

Years later there were girls,

Years later there were girls, Laughs and flirtation, smiles and kisses,

Years later there were girls, Laughs and flirtation, smiles and kisses, “I think she might be special.”

Years later there were girls, Laughs and flirtation, smiles and kisses, “I think she might be special.” Words uttered halfheartedly.

Sometimes it slipped in between,

Sometimes it slipped in between, Without their knowledge, without permission,

Sometimes it slipped in between, Without their knowledge, without permission, As their stares found each other,

Sometimes it slipped in between, Without their knowledge, without permission, As their stares found each other, Across the room for hours.

Sometimes it slipped in between,

Sometimes it slipped in between, The faint blush on their cheeks,

Sometimes it slipped in between, The faint blush on their cheeks, That a single touch birthed,

Sometimes it slipped in between, The faint blush on their cheeks, That a single touch birthed, They knew, they always did.

Love wins any race, any war,

Love wins any race, any war, And love did win the race against time,

Love wins any race, any war, And love did win the race against time, the war with themselves,

Love wins any race, any war, And love did win the race against time, the war with themselves, For one day the denial faded,

Love wins any race, any war, And love did win the race against time, the war with themselves, For one day the denial faded, And a new story was written.

Perhaps I spin this story,

Perhaps I spin this story, For I wish to tell the tale,

Perhaps I spin this story, For I wish to tell the tale, Of two beautiful people,

Perhaps I spin this story, For I wish to tell the tale, Of two beautiful people, Who fell in love so sweet.

I stand as I watch them at the altar,

I stand as I watch them at the altar, Vows repeated with every breath,

I stand as I watch them at the altar, Vows repeated with every breath, Eyes never leaving each other’s,

I stand as I watch them at the altar, Vows repeated with every breath, Eyes never leaving each other’s, As they whisper “I do”.

Lips clasped together so proud,

Lips clasped together so proud, Arms clasped, intertwined so gently,

Lips clasped together so proud, Arms clasped, intertwined so gently, Souls clasped, shimmering as one forever,

Lips clasped together so proud, Arms clasped, intertwined so gently, Souls clasped, shimmering as one forever, Hearts clasped in the beautiful ache.
