inspired by Psalm 23 and Edgar Allan Poe's works "The Domain of Arnheim" and "The Haunted Palace"

In Paradisum

Beneath harmonious skies,

Beneath harmonious skies, gilded in the dying day,

Beneath harmonious skies, gilded in the dying day, in the gardens of azure fountains.

Perfect pearls dreaming of a perfect dream,

Perfect pearls dreaming of a perfect dream, the twin moons Dolesa and Iesla reign.

These prideful daughters:

These prideful daughters: two princesses dwelling in their vanity and their delusions.

Imprisoned in their palace of glass and mirrors,

Imprisoned in their palace of glass and mirrors, they laugh with a silvery condescension.

Away from the indifference of their white shores,

Away from the indifference of their white shores, a river flows down to a twilight sea.

Wicked Gods,

Wicked Gods, envious of the dreamscape of moons,

Wicked Gods, envious of the dreamscape of moons, wander their desolated dominion.

A sickly river of a sulfurous and saffron hue,

A sickly river of a sulfurous and saffron hue, a meandering malady in this realm of sin.

Once glorious cities lie ruined;

Once glorious cities lie ruined; their sallow bones cast carelessly upon the barren earth.

Pleading for rain,

Pleading for rain, praying for nightfall,

Pleading for rain, praying for nightfall, shadows unfurl in the light of a sanguine sun.

Never setting,

Never setting, never wavering,

Never setting, never wavering, shackled in a crimson fire,

Never setting, never wavering, shackled in a crimson fire, she burns the world below her.

Stirring to wake from the nightmare,

Stirring to wake from the nightmare, the soul shivers in the chill of the rosy daybreak.

A haunted palace,

A haunted palace, a demon dwelling,

A haunted palace, a demon dwelling, of stone and ruby glass perched upon an emerald hill.

Phantoms of the past,

Phantoms of the past, masked in dusky regret,

Phantoms of the past, masked in dusky regret, wander in silence through empty halls.

In their funereal masquerade,

In their funereal masquerade, a mournful danse macabre,

In their funereal masquerade, a mournful danse macabre, there betwixt life and death.

An unearthly country,

An unearthly country, once prosperous,

An unearthly country, once prosperous, ravenously consumed by burgeoning darkness.

Beyond the tragedy,

Beyond the tragedy, beyond the wanton beasts,

Beyond the tragedy, beyond the wanton beasts, rests the promised land at the end of days.

Lo,

Lo, behold the sacred river that wanders along the endless path to this promised land.

In this final valley,

In this final valley, in this verdant and redeemed Eden,

In this final valley, in this verdant and redeemed Eden, Paradise has now been regained.

A wayfaring stranger,

A wayfaring stranger, dropping the cross of self-denial,

A wayfaring stranger, dropping the cross of self-denial, sleeps beneath the Tree of Life.

In the Kingdom of God,

In the Kingdom of God, in the company of the heavenly hosts,

In the Kingdom of God, in the company of the heavenly hosts, a holy psalm resounds:

“The LORD is my shepherd;

“The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want."

"He maketh me to lie down in green pastures:

“He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters."

"He restoreth my soul:

"He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake."

"Yea,

"Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,

"Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil:

"Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me;

"Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me."

"Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies:

"Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil;

"Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over."

"Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life:

"Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.”
