You think I tell you everything And it pains me to say that just isn’t true

Illusions

You think I tell you everything

And it pains me to say that just isn’t true

Maybe you’ve seen glimpses into my world and thought,

It must be for a story

Well, yes, it is

My story

You have heard the name before

I told you once it was the password to my phone

He and I grew up together, his presence felt in every room

Since that day at grandma and grandpa’s

For years I thought maybe I would tell you,

Let you into this other world of mine

But I think that would ruin the illusion I’ve spent fifteen years cultivating

It would expose my sanctuary, though all you have to do is step into my room to find it

There, I say his name without fear

It is his home too

You can find his name scrawled in books, on letters

Childhood memories, packaged with care

Maybe,

Should I ever be lucky enough to write a book

You will pick it up, flip through the pages and see

For Allen

A few pages in

It is only fair the world learns his name
