A poem I wrote about social inequalities among women, African Americans, Asian Immigrants, Mexican Americans, and Native Americans in the United States throughout history.

A White Man's World

Suffragists want the women's vote, for this they'll commit

Suffragists want the women's vote, for this they'll commit Eighteenth- can't sell alcohol, nineteenth- women in the polls

Suffragists want the women's vote, for this they'll commit Eighteenth- can't sell alcohol, nineteenth- women in the polls Women's Christian Temperance Union- Prohibition loving souls

Suffragists want the women's vote, for this they'll commit Eighteenth- can't sell alcohol, nineteenth- women in the polls Women's Christian Temperance Union- Prohibition loving souls Fighting for a world where all genders fit

It's a white man's world and we're all living in it

I was just a young boy when I learned I was unfit

I was just a young boy when I learned I was unfit Joined the NAACP 'cause they shared my point of view

I was just a young boy when I learned I was unfit Joined the NAACP 'cause they shared my point of view But the Southerners weren't too keen on building something new

I was just a young boy when I learned I was unfit Joined the NAACP 'cause they shared my point of view But the Southerners weren't too keen on building something new Now my African American brothers are facing the lynch

It's a white man's world, and we're all just living in it

Here's a Gentleman's Agreement, we don't need any more conflict

Here's a Gentleman's Agreement, we don't need any more conflict Keep your Japanese to yourself, of Asian immigrants we've got plenty

Here's a Gentleman's Agreement, we don't need any more conflict Keep your Japanese to yourself, of Asian immigrants we've got plenty The owners took them in so the factories wouldn't be empty

Here's a Gentleman's Agreement, we don't need any more conflict Keep your Japanese to yourself, of Asian immigrants we've got plenty The owners took them in so the factories wouldn't be empty Less of them and more of us is what we will permit

It's a white man's world and we're all just living in it

Going to el norte where the government's legit

Going to el norte where the government's legit We're digging America's ditches but they still treat us like fleas

Going to el norte where the government's legit We're digging America's ditches but they still treat us like fleas At least we've got the mutualistas societies

Going to el norte where the government's legit We're digging America's ditches but they still treat us like fleas At least we've got the mutualistas societies Neighborhoods called barrios where all Mexican Americans fit

It's a white man's world and we're all just living in it

Dear Society of American Indians, don't you care a bit?

Dear Society of American Indians, don't you care a bit? You can't just cancel our reservation

Dear Society of American Indians, don't you care a bit? You can't just cancel our reservation To live on the land belonging to the Native American nations

Dear Society of American Indians, don't you care a bit? You can't just cancel our reservation To live on the land belonging to the Native American nations Forced to change my name, to American ways I had to submit

It's a white man's world, and we're all just living in it

It's a white man's world, and we're all just living in it

Sure, it's a white man's world, but it's still yours too

Sure, it's a white man's world, but it's still yours too After all, without past mistakes how can we build something new?

Sure, it's a white man's world, but it's still yours too After all, without past mistakes how can we build something new? Don't give up, it's too early in the game to quit

Sure, it's a white man's world, but it's still yours too After all, without past mistakes how can we build something new? Don't give up, it's too early in the game to quit The place that your ancestors came from has

Sure, it's a white man's world, but it's still yours too After all, without past mistakes how can we build something new? Don't give up, it's too early in the game to quit The place that your ancestors came from has nothing

Sure, it's a white man's world, but it's still yours too After all, without past mistakes how can we build something new? Don't give up, it's too early in the game to quit The place that your ancestors came from has nothing to do with your wit

Each stanza in this poem is about the progress and struggles of a different group during a time in history. Each of the lines has specific meanings. The last stanza is important, because I wanted to show that I'm not blaming all white men. The point is that we all need to move forward and accept that this is all our world.
