the tale of a tired girl

by dinushka

A heavy fog settles over my brain,

smothering my synapses and rational thought

I blink, but when I open my eyes,

ships have sailed and wars have been fought

Everything moves like it's underwater,

slow and lethargic

And I'm pinching my fingers,

desperate and erratic

They know, oh they must know,

I can barely lift my head

I crave the confines that protect me

in my unassailable bed

But once I finally join my lover

while the moon is in its prime

The fog turns into a tsunami

flooding away the hands of time.

And I'm wide awake.
