The future is scary. We all know the feeling of anxiety. This short piece is about that feeling. Written while away from home, away from my life and unable to prevent the disintegration of a relationship,

knowing that I'll never know if I could have.

The poem was written on a sea sickness bag and left in the ship cabin where I was sick with angst for ten days.

IN CASE OF TRAVEL SICKNESS

Does the sea make you sick?

Does it make your stomach stick and your throat slick?

I’ve been laying in this room like you,

With a dry tongue, listening to the dying song of floating steel,

Waiting for the sickness to heal.

It’s not the ship that’s rocking,

It’s my heart in her hands.

And she’s twisting now,

Wringing out the blood.
