old friend, please don't

old friend, please don't

we walked, ran, and walked

from brace faces to watching the other walk down graduation

Denying that blood was thicker than water

But then

Like a battered coat I was hung up

For newer, patched-up sweaters

And after all these years

I still remember that one late night phone call

I heard nothing but tears and fear past midnight

I was tired and you were tired and afraid and I had exams that morning but regardless

by four you claim you saw dawn breaking

And you said if there was ever a chance you could do the same You would ...

Can you pay me back now?

we're already broken, so just put away your pride

So that your new friends won't feel like me

Therefore, please don't.

That was so well written using the oblique approach. The relationship was laid open by your scalpel like words. Great job!!
