The air was filled with the delicious smell of a near-by bakery. The sun was shining and the birds were singing - it was spring and blossoms started to bloom wherever I was looking.
A cute cafe’ further up the alleyway played “Lullaby Of a Birdland” - one of my all time favorites!
I could not help but sing along, my red summer dress covered in white polka dots was swinging around my legs as I was moving along to the tunes.
My curly brown hair was falling in long waves over my shoulders and made me feel as if I was in a music video.
I imagined me wearing a long white dress, dancing through a flower field at dawn and singing the lyrics of this romantic song with an angelic voice.
I knew that I could sing, people had told me before.
Quietly, I started humming along, completely lost in my own day dreams and definitely not paying attention as to where I was going when suddenly, I bumped into another person.
Caught off guard I was not able to hold my balance and fell.
I saw the stones of the sidewalk coming closer and closer - I was about to smack my head on the ground as a strong hand grabbed mine and pulled me back up my feet.
Looking for something to hold onto my other hand found something firm- the strangers chest! I was looking right at his eyes, he was not much taller than me, maybe about two centimeters.
His eyes were of a warm brown, he was smiling at me.
I could feel my cheeks burning, aware of how red my face must be right in that moment - so embarrassing! Why must I be so pale that every little thing makes my cheek flush?
I shut my eyes, not knowing what to do next.
Should I thank him, play it cool or just walk away and don’t say anything?
Millions of thoughts were running through my head and they stopped within an blink of an eye when the mysterious stranger asked:” Are you hurt anywhere?”.
His voice was deep, like honey and it made my ears tickle.
I did not want to say anything, hoping that I would hear it again and I did not get disappointed:” You don’t seem hurt … I am sorry for bumping into you…”.
I opened my eyes and my heart skipped a beat - I had not realized how close I had been to him!
I could see every little detail in his eyes, the golden ring on the outside and my reflection in his iris.
The thought that I was the only thing in his eyes right now made me feel nice and warm inside … Then I realized, that I was still touching his chest. Quickly I pulled away.
Or at least, that was what I had planned to do, because of his strong grip around my waist I was pulled right back to him, embracing him without meaning to.
My heart was beating so fast and all I could hear was the melody of “Lullaby of a Birdland”.
