#3 I thought, I know, I hope.

by carmen

I really thought it was plain sailing from then on

I really thought that now he knew everything he could help

I really thought he would love to take it slow

I really thought he could be himself around me

I really thought he would want to fix it right away

Now I know that the best of things take the hardest work

And I also know that I wasn't able to give that

Now I know that it was silly to expect a solution right away

And I also know that maybe I'm so damaged that I can't be fixed

Now I know that he thought he had to live up to the rest

I also know I wish I could've told him he was perfect before it was too late

Now I know every step of the way he thought he wasn't enough

I also know that just because I'm comfortable it doesn't mean he will be

Now I know that I was in too deep

I also know that he needs time

So many things I thought I knew and so many things I do now

But now I know all I can do is wait

The good things may come slow but fuck knows they're coming

(At least I really hope they are)
