Spelling Bee

by bryanthomas

The regional spelling bee had attracted many applicants from good schools.

However, the local council had insisted that children from 'less privileged backgrounds' should not be excluded.

Michel, a scruffy-looking nine-year-old, stood on the podium. "Your word is Axolotl," said one of the judges.

"A... x... o... l... o... t... l," said Michel.

The judges sat in stunned silence, until one of them could no longer contain her curiosity, "Michel, how did you know how to spell Axolotl?"

"Me mam loves Axolotls, she's got one tattooed on her arse."

Needless to say, Michel didn't progress to the televised National Final.
