Get Off of my Cloud

by bryanthomas

"I've finished my novel," said Harry. "When's it coming out?" said Jim. "I'm keeping it on ice for a while. It's on my hard drive and there's a backup copy on the cloud."

"Do you know what the cloud is?" "It's a white fluffy thing that stores data."

"Actually, it's an external server or bunch of servers that a whole lot of spooks can access 24/7." "What!"

"The CIA, the FBI, GCHQ - essentially what's yours is also theirs."

"Is there any way I can keep my novel safe?" "Only one. Copy it to a USB flash drive and swallow it."

@bernardtwindwil I didn't know about the locations of the MS/NSA servers! Coincidence? I doubt it! ;o)

Ohh the cloud! I like the use of confusing tech terms in this story and how the privacy is an illusion. Let it rain bits and bytes! Nice work.

Of course constipation is a requirement for retaining the flash drive. I love the cloud thing. Judy Collins was prescient when she sang. "I've look at clouds from both sides now. From up and down It's cloud's illusions that I recal. I don't know clouds at all." The largest Microsoft cloud server is right across the highway from the largest NSA server in San Antonio, TX. Co-incidence? You can see you got me going again. Great story!!!!
