Finding Stillness

Learning to meditate in Idaho

by breathe_in_life

Stillness

Not very many people, no traffic, very few trees. But tons of sky. At first, I held my breath. Waiting for life to happen.

Time

I watched chickens. I tilled earth, planted, waited for warmth. The water came from deep below my home. I learned about sustainability from lack.

Breathe

Part of each year being stuck taught me To let go. I held my breath long enough. There was crisp air and stars and so much to take in. Breathe, breathe.

Meditate

By the time I found formal meditation I was already home. I had always been home.

Simplicity

By holding still with the present moment, Moments I couldn't change, Moments of discomfort. I found beauty in truth. Truth in simplicity.

My wish.

Wishing you simple truths from Idaho. May you be well. May you find peace. May you be happy.

@lisa I'm a huge fan of guided meditations. That's one reason I like the insight timer app. I've been interested in chanting mantras and learning about that history lately too.

@breathe_in_life would you recommend guided meditations? I keep finding my mind wandering when i meditate

I like the insight timer app for home use! I like the vibe of a group setting too. My tiny town even has a few meditation groups. :)

@breathe_in_life wonderful! any advice for people starting to get into it? I still do it when I need it, but initially found it hard to get into the routine of meditating regularly

Thanks Sydney. Formal meditation, about a year. If you count yoga, more like 4 or 5.
