Everyone's a soldier

by BookGirl

Conflict is inevitable; It's in our lives every day.

We strive to avoid it, And lose loved ones to it, But don't realize that war isn't only found on a battlefield.

There's an infinite battle occurring,

And we all unknowingly take part in it. We fire our weapons, striving to bring our side to victory.

But, though we all try to fight on the same side,

We remain unaware of where our loyalties truly lie.

The 2 sides have many names:

Good Evil Light Dark

They each try to take over the world,

To cover as much ground as they can. They try everything to recruit soldiers, But the numbers are equally matched.

Light provides Warmth and Love, Compassion and Protection.

Though it's filled with everything that is good, and right, Some feel rebellious to stray from the "Goody-2-Shoes" side.

They are led to Darkness, Who in turn seduces them

With inner Fantasies and Dreams, Deep Desires and everything that is just Out Of Our Grasp.

But some fail to notice the demons hiding in the shadows,

Waiting to drag them to Nightmares and Horrors. Some are lucky to escape their clutches, and fight back with Light.

"Oh, dear Storyteller!", you cry.

"How do I evade the Dark and Evil? How do I fight back in this war with Light?"

But, alas, you already ARE in war, dear reader!

To truly take part, and scare off the monsters, all you must do is this:

Take a deep breath, Reach out,

And flip the light switch on the wall.

This story is related to both soldiers, whether you wrote it by accident, and to non soldiers. We all have to fight to live in this earth, so we end up being soldiers ourselves, though we don't use uniform.

@anominous Thank you. That made me feel a little better about it.

Yes I understand when you say I wasn't aiming to capture the emotions of real life war. But look at it this way for a moment, the story is written in such a way that everyone in every situation, can relate to it. Real war, battles in life, ect ect. This is a story that can but used for just about everything. It's not very often that a story can be used in so many ways. It's up to you if you want to make a story about real war.

@anominous Oh, I didn't think it was that good. Like I wasn't really thinking of an actual soldier. It's kinda hard to explain.....I guess I just don't think what I wrote was that good and didn't capture the true feelings of someone in war. But that's probably because I wasn't really aiming for those feelings. So, I'm happy your brother liked it and all, but I'm not sure why you (and a few others) actually insist I captured the feelings of war well. Considering that wasn't what I was aiming for. But, if you guys would like, I could write an actual poem relating to soldiers and war?

This is very powerful. My brother is a soldier, he says you basically sell your soul and mind and lose your conscience to be able to execute the task given to you. I read him your story... He said great work, and keep doing what your doing. Awesome job .

Thank you. I appreciate your kind words. It makes me feel good knowing that I got something I haven't experiences accurate. And I'm thrilled that the nightmares are over. No one should have to go through those horrors. I can only imagine what it feels like. @bernardtwindwil

I was a soldier for a long time. It took me years to get my soul back. and for the nightmares to end. You hit dead center once again. I have no more words.
